Prompt: First Date
It had been a year and half since Sakura and Naruto had successfully brought Sasuke back home. A year and a half had passed since the end of the 4th shinobi war ushering in a new era of peace. It had taken a year and a half for Sasuke to regain the trust of the village and be allowed simple privileges once again. It had taken Sasuke Uchiha a year and half to finally grasp what Sakura and Sasuke were to him. He needed that time to sort through nightmares, insecurities, and misconceptions that had bloomed wildly during his past and now had to be cut down to reach his future.
During the time of what the Hokage had deemed as Sasuke’s “rehabilitation,” Sakura and Naruto had not left his side. The blonde and pinkette provided both the comfort and support that Sasuke insisted he did not need.
At first things had been rocky. Sasuke was as cold and distant from the two as ever, but as time marched on and neither Naruto nor Sakura’s loyalty wavered, Sasuke began to, albeit very slowly and cautiously, trust and open up to his two friends. It was easier for Sasuke to reestablish his bond with Naruto than Sakura for some reason. He felt a deep pang of guilt for betraying Sakura in every way possible, even going far enough to try and kill her. Meanwhile, Sakura had done everything to save since they had first been put on a team together. However, Sakura respected his discomfort and over time Sasuke formed a strong and closer bond with the female on his team.
It was easier this time around. Sakura was very different from the crying, weak girl he had gently set on the bench before leaving the village. Sakura had worked hard and become just as strong as him or Naruto. She no longer fawned over Sasuke, but instead cared for him at a level her could handle. She didn’t allow others to walk all over her. She had grown into a strong, independent, and Sasuke hated to admit it, beautiful young woman.
If you were to tell Sasuke Uchiha that he would begin to fall for the pink haired girl, the girl he once found endearing, but equally annoying, he would simply scoff, call you an idiot, and then walk away. Yet, that is exactly what happened. The dark haired nin was afraid at first. He wasn’t exactly used to feelings like these. There was also the fact that Sasuke seemed to find that every person he loved or cared for ended up hurt in some way.
He refused his feelings at first. He distanced himself from Sakura a bit and his heart clenched painfully every time he saw the hurt in her eyes. She was patient, however, and soon Sasuke found himself drifting towards her once more. It was only a matter of time before Sasuke began to accept his feelings. He began to act more affectionately with Sakura. Small gestures here and there tipped off Naruto about the Uchiha’s budding feelings and the blonde refused to let him live it down. He also refused to let Sasuke not act on the feelings.
It was after a series of somewhat embarrassing and neurotic events that Sasuke finally worked up the nerve to ask Sakura out on a date. It took Sakura a moment or two to process that that’s what Sasuke was actually doing, but she answered with a gleeful yes.
Sasuke was quite, but comfortably so throughout their first date. Sakura spoke enough for the both of them and she was more than happy with a comfortable silence at points. Sasuke was perhaps even a little nervous about the date, if Sakura thought that the Uchiha could even experience nervousness. He was a perfect gentleman and even surprised Sakura with a tender kiss at the end of the date. Sasuke Uchiha blushing was a rare sight and Sakura made sure it was imprinted on her memory for later. Naruto, who had been on his way to visit Sakura and see how her date went, happened to catch sight of the two locking lips outside of her apartment.
The blonde haired ninja simply grinned widely before turning back around and heading to his own little apartment. He would talk to Sakura later and tease Sasuke endlessly the next day. He couldn’t be happier for his two friends.
